Xbox One Owners Are Seeing a My Little Pony Error

Online services are always being updated and tested, that's how we get new features. And it's not unusual to have content posted as part of that testing which the public is never meant to see. With that in mind, some Xbox One owners are seeing a very strange error message that clearly was never meant for public consumption.

According to Videogamer, the error message was highlighted to Microsoft by Reddit poster TechGuruJ, real name James Winterswolf, who had it flash up on his Xbox One. It includes reference to an episode of My Little Pony called "Read it and Weep."

The title of "Mock Error Title" is the first big hint that something isn't quite right with this error page. Here's the rest of the text:

"This would be some long description of the error. Read it and weep! And if you haven't looked up this phrase on the Internet, please do! You will find a My Little Pony episode called "Read it and Weep." Cloudchasers and Wonderbolts, you'll never be forgotten!"

As well as confirming Microsoft's Xbox team does use test content, it suggests there is a Brony within their ranks. A Brony being, according to the Urban Dictionary, "A fan of the show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic". Often male, but female fans are not uncommon."

Mike Ybarra, corporate vice president of the Xbox & Windows gaming platforms at Microsoft, has since confirmed via Twitter that this page should never be seen and that it will be fixed. That fix should have happened by now, but the identity of the Brony who wrote the error text remains a mystery.
