Amazon Alexa Heading to Your Ears Via Bragi Dash

Amazon's Alexa is headed to your ears.

Wearable device company Bragi on Friday announced that Amazon's voice-based personal assistant will soon be available on its Dash and Dash Pro wireless earphones. The integration, slated to arrive in October, will allow Dash and Dash Pro owners to access Alexa's capabilities anywhere they can get a network connection.

Bragi products are already compatible with other voice assistants like Apple's Siri and Google Assistant. Adding Alexa "brings a new world of possibilities through smart home, shopping, and home entertainment use cases," the company wrote in a news release. As for music, Dash owners will be able to access Amazon's music library, Prime Music, Audible, and TuneIn Radio using Alexa.

"We have always seen The Dash as an interactive device that improves one's quality of life," Bragi founder Nikolaj Hviid said in a statement. "Through Alexa, we are able to take this one step further."

When it becomes available, Dash owners will need to download Bragi OS (BOS) 3.1, update the Bragi app, and connect an Amazon account to access Alexa from their ears.

The Bragi Dash earned a Good rating in PCMag's review. We liked their cable-free Bluetooth design and the fact that they double as a fitness tracker, but lamented their "meager battery life" and "inaccurate heart rate measurements."

"While audio quality is solid, it rarely sounds as good as $300 earphones should," we pointed out. "And while step counts are accurate, heart rate measurements were a bit off in testing."

Meanwhile, Alexa is also soon branching out to a somewhat unlikely place — Windows 10 PCs. Amazon together with Microsoft this week announced plans to integrate their digital assistants. Later this year in the US, you'll be able to access Alexa via Cortana on Windows 10 PCs and tap into Cortana on Alexa-enabled devices like the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Show.
