The Google Maps app is getting a new feature that should come in handy the next time you're planning a trip or giving recommendations to a friend.
Starting today, you can create lists of places and share them with others. You can also follow the lists your friends and family share with you. The feature is available on the Google Maps app for iOS and Android.
"Is your bucket list etched in your memory, or scribbled on a dozen post-it notes scattered around your home?" Google Maps Product Manager Zach Maier wrote in a Monday blog post. "Have you ever promised out-of-town guests an email full of your favorite spots, only to never get around to clicking send?" This new feature should help you stay a little more organized and on the ball.
To try it out, just open the Google Maps app and find a spot you want to save. Tap the name of the place, then click the "Save" icon to add it to one of several pre-set lists like "Want to Go" or "Favorites" or a new list you name yourself.
To view all your lists, just go to Your Places in the side menu then open the saved tab. Icons for places you've saved will appear on the map itself.

"With the millions of landmarks, businesses and other points of interest in Google Maps, there's no shortage of places to try," Maier wrote. "Now that we've got the world mapped, it's your turn to map your world with lists—from local hotspots to bucket list destinations worlds away."
The new feature should be especially helpful for giving friends and family recommendations for places to visit in a certain city. Just create a list like "Best Views in San Francisco," for instance, and share it whenever someone asks.
Lists you follow will also live in the Your Places section of the app, and are viewable on your mobile device and desktop. If you're more of a visual learner, check out the video below to see how it works.
