Few if any companies do as good a job inserting themselves into our daily existence as Google.
The search giant and Android steward only magnified its influence as our online activities shifted from the desktop to mobile. And it is determined to not be left behind as we further shift to a world of disembodied voice-based assistants.
Statista surveyed Google users, and nearly 70 percent of them reported using Google daily. Adding in those who use Google at least once a week raises the total to nearly 95 percent. The remaining stragglers report using Google a few times per month or less. However, it's likely that many underestimate their interaction with Google, at least indirectly, given its ownership of Google Maps, the Chrome web browser, and Gmail.
Indeed, with Google Duplex, the company has shown that, but for its disclosure, you may soon be interacting with it without realizing it at all.

For now, though, one new way Google might be in your life more is via the Assistant and the Google Home lineup of smart speakers. According to new data from Canalys, Google has topped Amazon for the first time globally when it comes to smart speaker shipments. It shipped 3.2 million Google Home and Home Mini devices, while Amazon shipped 2.5 million Echo devices during the first quarter.
Google's rise can be attributed to its expansion into markets like India, where it has partnered with service providers like Jio and ACT Fibernet.
"Google has several advantages over Amazon that have helped it move ahead," Canalys Analyst Ben Stanton said in a statement. "But its biggest advantage is in the channel. Operators and retailers tend to prioritize Google's speakers over those from Amazon, as Amazon is in the tricky position of being a direct competitor. But Amazon is fighting back hard, and the sheer quantity of Alexa Skills and smart home integrations will be tough for any competitor to match."
