In the market for a new fitness tracker? Polar might have just the thing.
The fitness gadget maker just introduced a new wearable that offers continuous heart-rate monitoring and advanced sleep tracking. During periods of inactivity, the $199 Polar A370 tracks your resting heart rate at least every five minutes. When you start engaging in "higher levels of activity" like running or walking, the device will "measure heart rate at a higher resolution," Polar said. It automatically distinguishes between the two via an integrated 3D accelerometer.
"The utility of traditional heart rate monitors has been limited to workout sessions only; but what about the other 23 hours of the day?" Polar US President Tom Fowler said in a statement. "Understanding those hours — whether spent training, resting or doing light activity — is crucial to achieving fitness goals."
He went on to say that Polar developed continuous heart rate monitoring technology to "fill that critical gap."
"Now, we're enabling users to take charge of their fitness with a 24/7 perspective on their heart rate profile, activity levels and even rest and recovery," Fowler said. "This is a game-changer for athletes of all levels from beginner to pro."

Meanwhile, when you hit the hay, the Polar A370 leverages the 3D accelerometer to track the timing, amount, and quality of your sleep, based on your position and wrist movements. It will also take note of any interruptions in your slumber and keep tabs on your sleeping patterns to offer feedback about your shut-eye.
Besides heart rate and sleep, the Polar A370 will also track your activity and calories burned, and give you an assessment of your overall health and how these three things impact each other. The device connects with the Polar Flow app, which offers a detailed overview of your health and fitness data, and guidance to help you reach your goals.
The Polar A370 features a waterproof display and several different band colors, including black, white, ruby red, petrol (teal), deep blue, and orange. It's available for pre-order now and slated to begin shipping in June.
