The Arkane Studios-developed first-person shooter Prey has only been available to play for a couple of months, and yet speedrunners have ripped it apart.
According to Arkane, Prey is at least a 16 hour gameplay experience if played as intended, which means enjoying the story, not bypassing anything, and generally taking your time to experience it fully. It's not unheard of to accrue 30+ hours in the game.
Speedrunners don't care about enjoying playing the game, though. Their enjoyment stems from completing it as fast as possible, and hopefully faster than anyone else. So a month ago we saw the first completion time below one hour. That was posted by MisterMunkki who achieved a time of 42 minutes and 52 seconds.

That's impressive enough considering this is a 16+ hour game, but then the completion time dropped to under 15 minutes, then under 12 minutes, and finally under 10 minutes. It remained at just seven minutes and 22 seconds for 23 days before speedrunner seeker__ came along and took it below seven minutes two days ago.
You can see that sub-seven minute run in the video above. Keep in mind there's actually two speedrun times taking account of load/cutscene times and without. Seeker__ did sub-seven minutes without loads, which becomes nine minutes and 30 seconds with them.
For now, seeker__ holds the world record completion time, but it probably won't last. Someone will discover an even quicker way through the game. It may only shave a few seconds off the total, but that's enough to claim the title until someone else beats that. Just how low can it go?
