Snag a ‘Metal Gear Solid’ Walkman (in Japan)

If you love Metal Gear Solid, have some money to burn, and live in Japan, Sony has something special for you.

To drum up excitement for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain video game, Sony this week debuted a set of tie-in Walkman products.

The Walkman ZX series NW-ZX2 and A Series NW-A16 MP3 players will be available next month—but only in Japan.

The ZX2 is a hefty ¥140,000 ($1,128) and includes the game's title printed on the front, as well as a leather case stamped with the Outer Heaven mercenary group's logo. It also comes pre-installed with 10 high-resolution Metal Gear soundtrack songs, including "Sins of the Father," "Quiet's Theme," and "Heavens Divide," as well as four HD wallpapers.

The more moderate NW-A16 Walkman, available for ¥28,000 ($226), sports the same Outer Heaven image engraved on the back, and comes packaged in a similarly themed box.

Sony last summer resurrected its classic Walkman: a modern digital music player with a vintage aesthetic. The NWZ-ZX1 features bulky dimensions and a hefty price tag of $700, though it's currently selling for $500 on Amazon.

Six months later, the tech giant introduced the next-gen ZX2, with Bluetooth compatibility, 60-hour battery life, 128GB of internal storage, and a body sculpted from solid aluminum. It sells for just south of $1,200.

If you're in the market for something a little more all-inclusive, Sony is also selling a Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain-branded Xperia J1 Compact smartphone, and Xperia Z4 and Z3 Compact tablets. The smartphone includes a stamped logo on the back, "radio call" ringtone, and two original soundtrack tunes. Its larger siblings, meanwhile, promise two original case design choices, as well as two songs.
