Grab your wallets, gamers, and prepare to eat ramen until the New Year, because the Steam Winter Sale is on.
Valve on Thursday kicked off the annual sale, which runs now through Jan 4 at 1 p.m. ET, offering up to 90 percent off Steam hardware, and a lot more. The Steam Controller earned a "good" rating in PCMag's review while the Steam Link media streamer, which lets you play any Steam game installed on your PC on your HDTV over your Wi-Fi network, nabbed "excellent" marks.
Today's featured deals include 75 percent off the massively multiplayer space adventure title Elite Dangerous, bringing it down to just $7.49; 90 percent off puzzle-platformer Portal 2 (now just $1.99); and half off the first-person shooter Prey (now $19.99). You'll also find big savings today on Tekken 7, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, Vanquish, Styx: Shards of Darkness, the Dungeons franchise, and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, just to name a few.
While you're over there emptying your wallet, you'll also have the opportunity to vote for The Steam Awards. Voting kicked off today with the "Choices Matter" award.

"Games are about agency, and this award is for the game that has it in spades," Valve explained. "Maybe it's because there are 31 ways you can breach into a villains lair. Perhaps there are dozens of potential partners for you to build a romantic future with. Or maybe you find yourself constantly saying 'Where oh where should I plant those turnips'? In all three scenarios there is a common bond: the choice was always yours."
Finalists for today's award, which were nominated by the community during the Steam Autumn sale, include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Dishonored 2, Divinity: Original Sin II, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, and Life Is Strange: Before the Storm.
